Preparing for the Sacrament of Baptism

St. Francis of Assisi follows the guidelines of the Diocese of Richmond concerning preparation for the Sacrament of Baptism. Link to the booklet "Called To Faith" and its "Addendum "

Infants & Children of the Age of Reason

The pastor ultimately determines the readiness for baptism. It is his responsibility to assure that the parents will be faithful as the first teachers of the Faith. For children of the age of reason he determines the same affirmation by the parents and the child's ability to participate in the preparation process. For this reason an initial meeting with the pastor is the first step. Please call:
(540) 886-2262 or 886-9121 to make an initial appointment.

Further information may be found to the left.

Adult Baptism

Adults, whether from a Catholic tradition or non-Catholic tradition are prepared for the reception of baptism through a process called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). This is a 1 to 3 year preparation program.
